There are hundreds of web sites relating to this industry. Which
do you use? Which do you avoid?
- If you do not know what you
are doing, you can rapidly burn up hundreds of hours in search
time and still come up empty handed.
- In a
more "worse case" scenario, you could become /
already are the victim of some clever scam artists portraying
themselves as real job opportunities.
- If you are "In the Know", you
go right to where the jobs are!
To make
things simple, we have divided into five easily identifiable
categories the types of web sites you will encounter in your
search for offshore, oilfield, oilrig and maritime employment. If it has anything to
do with offshore, you will find it on one of
these sites.
1.
Employer sites posted by legitimate companies engaged
in offshore, oilfield, oilrig and maritime operations. These are the
companies that do the hiring. They are scattered all over the
globe, operate 24/7 both onshore and off, employ millions of workers from
all walks of life and are always searching for dependable, hardworking people. Experienced
and entry level alike.
- Legitimate sites (offshore drilling
contractors, boat companies, service companies, etc.) is where you want to spend your time and energy because this
is where you will get hired.
- Follow
our simple instructions and you could be interviewing for
work in less than 72 hours.
- Crude has hit an all time high and continues to do so weekly
and sometimes even daily.
There are NO indicators this is going to change.
This fast paced historic rise keeps the recruiting part of
the industry in OVERDRIVE.
- Shipyard
orders for new rigs and boats have tripled in the last year.
- Older
rigs which had been mothballed are being refurbished and put
into operation.
- Every
day recruiters get more and more shorthanded of
dependable personnel.

2.
Offshore employment agency sites find you a job for
a fee. The normal fee for Gulf of Mexico operations is 14 days
pay. This can be paid all at once or in installments.
Fees for
overseas jobs vary from agency to agency. If you
do not have or do not want to spend time searching for a job
yourself, then using a dependable offshore , oilrig, oilfield or
maritime job agency might be just the ticket you are
looking for.
3.
Data collection sites accept, register and store your
resumé or CV and contact details. This data is then made available to
recruiters who are
actively searching for personnel. Some data collection sites
offer additional services, some don't.
- Most
of the better known of these sites are legit. Real recruiters will
review your resumé, work history and contact
details. If they think you are the person they are looking
for, they will give you a call.
- There are a few rouge sites
that are professionally laid out, very real looking and contain
some convincing
sales material so WATCH OUT! (more on this later)
- You
will get hired through the legitimate ones.
- The
others will waste your time and take your money by
connecting you with phony offers that, to the untrained eye,
are quite convincing and lucrative looking.
4.
Resumé or CV blaster sites: If you do not want to use
the one on one direct contact method in your job search
(our recommendation), the
other choice is to have your resumé or CV blasted to ALL
the companies in the offshore, oilfield, oilrig and maritime job industry at one time.
Some
people have success with this. If you think using a blaster site
will be the best way to get your resumé or CV in the hand's of a
hiring recruiter, we have the website (the link is
further down this page) that has
the best track record for getting this done in a timely and
efficient manner.
5.
Oil job SCAM sites are masters of deception and can
be found as easy as legitimate employers on any search engine. They are professional,
well laid out and know how to word their sales material in just
the right way to get your email address and / or money. Click on
their web page or open their email and this is what you can
expect:
- They will lie about who they are and what
they can do for you.
- They
will steal your money and not give it back.
- It is
estimated 1000 PLUS offshore oil job seekers become new victims
every month, but you don't have to be one.
- You will
get little assistance from government agencies whose job it
is to enforce the law. Not because they don't want to help,
but because they are overwhelmed with internet fraud cases.
- AND
not
only on the web. Newspapers from all over the world run ads for offshore, oilfield,
oilrig and maritime job SCAM web sites (targeting
European and third world countries) with their false promise of
big money and a better
life.
Do
you know which is which? You better!
