Dear Ron,

I have been contacted by rig-jobs@excite.com offering me an interview over the phone. But first they want me to sign up with their company and then give them my credit card details. They say I will not be charged a penny until after employment is taken.

It is a fee of $450.00 US which I feel is large but I am more bothered about the company's reputation and will they actually get me a job.

Have you ever had any dealings with them. They say they have been working for 6 years in America and are the largest oilfield placement agency on the internet. Is this actually true?

I am beginning to wonder myself so I have just asked them to send me their full mailing address and telephone numbers so I can ring the office and speak to someone. It does seem a little fishy as they said that I can take or leave the offer. 

I have yet to satisfy my doubts or give me some actual research material. Below is most of the e-mails that have been sent and thanks for the help.

After I got Jason's letter another reader wrote in saying he had received the same e-mail. He went a little further:

it does not matter if you are online or offline, if you are one of the largest placement services on the internet, you should have a phone. In fact you should have several of them! What city and state are you located in?

I will tell you what with an attutude like the one you have, you get a job at another place, we have jobs, you don't

no, I don't think you have jobs, I think you have a lot of BS. Asking for a phone number is not an unreasonable request. If you are who you say you are, and I am seriously beginning to doubt that, you would provide a number.

If you are not who you say you are, you would be acting just as you are. So, I'll give you one last chance to clear this up.

I want a job, I have experience, and I have the money to pay you, but first, you have to convince me you are a legitimate firm and not some scam artist.
