Avoid Offshore, Oilfiled, Oil Rig Job Scams

Advanced Air Fare Fees

Dear Mr. Edwards,

After reading your site "The Complete Offshore Employment Handbook", my mind is opened right now. Having a job in the oil industry is always be my dream, and I have been doing many things to make it come true, but it still hasn't worked out.

Until one day, after I advertised my self in an oil web site, I got an offer from someone (seems to me it's a kind of agency). He is offering me to be a "Wellsite Geologist Trainee" (my educational background is geology engineering) and I will be placed in The North Sea. But one thing that makes me wonder is, does he really want to help me or he just wants to get something from me ???

Because he asked first for the airfare to be sent to him as a guarantee that I will show up, the amount is quite a lot. I want you to suggest to me what should I do to get over this? When I consider the risk of loosing my money, I become the man who doubts him. But then I think how much money he says I will make from this job and I  really want to ignore everything and do as he has requested.

So please help me to make the right decision because I really need this job. I think that's all and I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks before.

Regards
Fajar H

Note : I enclose the record of my correspondence with him as a consideration to you.

Dear Mr Lewis

I hope my more questions don't bother you.

1. I really don't have that money for airfare so, what if you (or the Repsol Co.) provide this (the airfare) and I'll pay it back from my salary, is it possible? And I'll give to you (Allied Personnel) 10% of my salary for one year.

2. Or what do you think, if I go there (to Aberdeen) by my self, I mean without sending the airfare to you ($875.00 USD). Because so far I know the cheaper ticket price around ($450.00 - $550.00 USD) from my country, Indonesia to London.

3. Besides all things above, I also want ask you about the fiscal fee and the document of permission to get from England Embassy in Indonesia. Who will make them all clear? Should I do it by my self or the company will? One thing you need to know is that it's a bit difficult to get the clearance but it will be easier if I arrange it by my own self.

Regards,
Fajar

Mr. Hidayat,

If we make an exception for you then it would not be fair to the others who have followed this procedure. Since we get the ticket we can coordinate several arrivals and departures of crews and have control over the time frame. Otherwise it is a mass of confusion with each man getting his own schedule. As far as visa to work we take care of all of  that. Once we get the airfare we get ticket which is needed to apply for work visa. When all paperwork is complete we overnight the air ticket, visa and all other information you will need as far as contact person, etc. We have been doing this a long time and know how it is done. Do not worry.

If you are going let me know soon. I have to make plans to fill my roster. If you can not send the airfare I understand. But if you can then we need to get on with it as I am out of time.

LET ME KNOW SOON!!!

Regards,
James

Mr James.

I know you've spent a lot time for helping me. I'm really grateful of it because I really need a job. But I believe that you can understand me about the airfare. This one is not an easy problem for me. If you give me more time (around one month) to collect some money for airfare it will be good news for me.

So how long will your offer be available for me ? If you think one month is too long, you may ignore me. But I beg you to give more time to make it done.

Regards
Fajar

notes: do you still need my passport number and record of my shot immunization ??

Mr. Hidayat,

I spent a lot of time being patient and offering you a job to get you started in the industry. I try to be fair and honest in all of my dealings as I expect others to be with me. I would appreciate if you would show the courtesy of letting me have a final decision as I have others that would like the job.

Thank you,
James

Mr. Hidayat,

I understand that your money is limited and this is very important in your life. Do you think that one month will allow you time to get airfare together? I can give you time as long as I have an idea of the time frame so I can make plans meanwhile. The job is yours if you are serious and I will work with you to make it happen.

I do need the passport and immunization information. We can get that started while we are waiting on your airfare. How much can you get and let me know so we can see what to do. I will work with you, but you must send something or it is not fair to others.

Let me know

Regards,
James

Note: Do you have a bank account set up? I ask because your pay is direct deposited. If not we can send you a check if you like. Direct deposit is just easier due to the distances involved.

Dear Mr Lewis

I'm really sorry because I can't keep what I've promised you. I've sold my motorcycle and did everything I could but it's still not enough for airfare expense. I don't know what to do anymore.

If I may offer you, I'm willing to make agreement that you provide the airfare for me and then you can have 50% of  my salary for one year. If it's possible I'll be really thank full to you, cause I really need this job but if you can't do that, I can understand.

I hope if you have other chances to get job in oil industry (such as in Asia or Australia, closer to my country, which the airfare is lower) I'll be glad to get this.

Regards,
Fajar Hidayat

Mr. HIDAyat,

If you send $200.00 to John Norris via Western Union to FT. Wayne, Indiana we can do business. Let me know the 10 digit confirmation number and we can do business.

Regards,
James

Mr James

I only able to provide less than $250.00 if u said it is not fair, I don't think so because you will get more money after i did my duty in the offshore, and all u have to do is just sit and then I'll give you 50% of my salary. (if you provide my airfare and document of working)

I think that's fair enough for me and you.

Regards
Fajar

I think that's all for now and I'm looking forward to hearing you
